Dr. Olwyn K Davies. a graduate of Willamette University and the University of Oregon Medical School (now OHSU), kicked off his medical career by working in army hospitals during the Korean War. After the war he settled in Silverton where he practiced medicine for 65 years, delivering an estimated 2,000 babies and becoming the sole primary care doctor for generations.
A general practitioner, Davies, always dressed in a suit and tie, went out of his way to serve his patients. He would often come in early to the office before 7am and stay late until after 8pm to accommodate his patients. Dr. Davies philosophy was that there was always room for one more!
One of the last doctors in the country to continue making house calls, Davies made his way to the bedside of many patients, black bag in hand. When patients saw him, they would know they were going to be OK. His famous saying was ‘Better days are coming.’
Unwilling to even consider retirement, Davies continued working into his 90s, still seeing a full roster of patients with the help of his devoted staff. The mural stands as a testament of his dedication to the people of Silverton. The mural is located on the west-facing wall of Silver Falls Family Dental Care, 214 Oak St., where Davies once practiced.
